Conference NORMA 05: 2nd 6th September 2005
Conference theme
The conference theme, Relating Practice and Research in Mathematics
Education, is intended to focus on how different practices in
preparation for learning are related to teachers' views on the learning
of mathematics, and how these views are related to basic theoretical
aspects of mathematics education. Research in this tension between
theory and practice will develop more knowledge about practices that can
foster improved learning in mathematics, and therefore enhance knowledge
about favourable approaches to education in school and to pre-service
and in-service education of teachers.
Participants
The conference is primarily designed for teachers and teacher educators,
researchers and graduate students in mathematics education, in
particular from the Nordic and Baltic countries, but participants from
other countries are most welcome.
Programme
The programme will include invited plenary talks (60 min), paper
presentations (40 min), workshops (60 min), short communications (20
min), and a scheduled poster session.
Official language
The official language of the conference is English.
Call for contributions
Participants are invited to submit proposals for paper presentations,
short communications, workshops and poster sessions. All proposals
should contribute to the development of the conference theme, Relating
Practice and Research in Mathematics Education.
Participants who wish to submit a proposal are requested to send an
abstract describing the category (paper, short communication, workshop,
or poster), aim and main content of the proposal. The abstracts should
be 1-2 pages long for a workshop or poster and 2-3 pages long for a
paper or short communication, and will be reviewed by the programme
committee before acceptance.
Abstracts should be sent to the conference secretary (e-mail:
norma05 at hist.no) no later than 1st May 2005. Information about
acceptance will be sent to contributors by 15th June 2005.
Accepted contributors will be invited to send the final version of their
full contribution for the conference proceedings no later than 30th
August 2005.
