SENIOR MATHEMATICS EDUCATION POSITION
UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS DARTMOUTH
Position Description:
We invite applications for a tenured position at the Associate or Full
Professor level commencing Fall 2004. Candidates must have a doctorate in
Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field that includes a
strong background in Mathematics, experience in obtaining external research
support, and a strong record in research and teaching at multiple levels of
education. The successful candidate will join an active Mathematics
Education Research Group including Jim Kaput, Maria Blanton, and Stephen
Hegedus, who share close working relationships with researchers at TERC, th=
e
Concord Consortium and others on the national and international scene.
Current projects focus on foundational change and innovation that include:
=B7 Rethinking the roles of algebraic reasoning in elementary mathematics=
,
=B7 The long term evolution of proof capacity from elementary grades
through college mathematics,
=B7 The innovative uses of technology to democratize access to core ideas
of the mathematics of change and variation including calculus, as well as
geometry and statistics,
=B7 The affordances and constraints of wireless classroom connectivity,
and
=B7 The generative diffusion of educational innovation at school and
district levels, especially through innovations in teacher professional
development.

Rank and Salary:
Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications
