[Maths-Education] School algebra texts

I've become very interested recently in some aspects of teaching algebra
at schools, particularly around the 14-16 age group. Part of this involves
examining (English language) text books, going back perhaps even as far as
the 1850's.  I'd be very interested to know list members answers to the
following question.

What are/were the most popular, important or influential school
algebra texts?
