I would agree that "Grouws, D. A. Ed. (1992) Handbook of Research on =
Mathematics Teaching and Learning, New York: Macmillan" definitely =
belongs in top 3.

The other books mentioned by Paola and Paul are indeed very significant =
ones. However, I think that John Mason's (et al.) book: "Thinking =
Mathematically" also belongs on the list. I think it was first published =
in 1985 but during the 1990's it has been translated into several =
languages, for instance Chinese.=20

A question - does "the most influential or significant books since 1990" =
mean books published in the 1990's and/or books that have been cited =
during the 1990s? In case of the latter I would also suggests "classics" =
such as Polya, Vygotsky and Piaget - not to forget good old Wittgenstien =
:-)

Actually I think that it's difficult to create a general top 3 for books =
in general math education. Math education is a very broad field of =
research covering psychology, sociology, philosophy etc. etc. and what =
books people cite would depend on their more specific sub field. So =
perhaps it would be easier to find a top 3 within each of these sub =
fields. This is just a suggestion.
