I have been asked to pass on information concerning a seminar on Monday
24 June, 2.00 - 3.30pm in the School of Mathematics, University of
Bristol.

'What is mathematics, really?'

Reuben Hersh, Professor Emeritus, University of New Mexico.

Abstract: Everything is supposed to be either "physical" (what you can
see, touch, smell, count, measure, or detect in the lab), "mental"
(subjective, personal interior to the individual consciousness) or
"transcendental" ('out there', ineffable, superhuman). Anybody with
his or her head on straight can see that math is none of the above. So
what is it, really?

All are welcome.
