I thought I'd add another Canadian perspective (Side note to Geoff: isn't it obvious it has two faces, one edge and one vertex?
;-)  )

Around here Ratio refers to part to part, with the understanding that either part might be the whole (in other words they don't
have to be disjoint parts).

I always thought proportions compared ratios...
