The First Annual
Institute of Mathematics Pedagogy
July 19th to July 23rd 2001
to be held at the
Department of Educational Studies, University of Oxford
hosted by the University of Oxford and the Open University
The Institute will bring together mathematics teachers, educators and
educational researchers for study and discussion on mathematical
thinking, learning, tasks and activities sustained over a few days.
The programme will be grounded in mathematics. There will be
workshops, readings (including some prior reading), discussions and
time to write. All sessions will be appropriate for established and
novice practitioners in all phases, in all kinds of institution and
from all countries. No assumptions will be made about knowledge and
experience. The atmosphere will be informal and hardworking. A
detailed programme, including evenings, will be provided on arrival.
Do not expect to give papers, nor to listen to speakers!
Leaders: John Mason and Anne Watson
Cost =A3250 includes bed and breakfast accommodation in an Oxford
college, buffet lunch at the Department and evening meals at various
venues. Non-residents should pay =A390 to cover costs and lunch and
dinner. Numbers are restricted to 20 and we cannot give any
bursaries or reductions this year.
