Accessing a git repository, reviewing code 4. Making new contributions 5. Branches and conflicts 6. Some useful tools To do before the webinar: To gain some time, please create in advance an account at github.com (and possibly link an SSH key to your account as explained here). This first event will be a webinar by No? Brucy, introducing git fundamentals. No? will cover basic git concepts for users (cloning the code, managing local changes) and for developers (creating a fork, a branch, merging, etc), and guide us through practical examples. The webinar will take place next week, on Tuesday (July 2) or Thursday (July 4). Please fill up this doodle before this wednesday (June 26) to help us set the date promptly. Due to this so-called superradiant instability, a macroscopic bosonic condensate can form around the BH, leading to striking observable signatures, such as the emission of detectable gravitational waves from the condensate itself. Hence, this phenomenon represents a powerful tool to probe ultralight fields beyond the Standard Model, such as axions or dark photons. Until recently, studies of the instability assumed the superradiant field to be free from interactions, aside from a minimal coupling to gravity. However, as number densities can reach extreme values in the process, the effect of interactions can be crucial, even for very feebly interacting fields. In particular, interactions with the ambient plasma environment (namely an accretion disk or interstellar plasma) or couplings to other Standard Model fields can dramatically change the evolution of these systems. In this talk, I will describe the role of interactions and environmental effects in different superradiant systems, showing their impact in the evolution of the instabilities. cheers, Thanasis -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Impacts of Non-stellar Sources on IGM : Interpretation of Lyman-?? forest observations The Epoch of Reionization (EoR) marks a critical phase in the evolution of the universe, yet remains poorly understood. While star-forming galaxies are acknowledged as key contributors to ionized bubble formation, the extent of contribution from alternative sources such as shock-heated ISM or emission from X-ray binaries remains unclear. In this study, we employ cosmological radiative transfer simulations to explore the impact of diverse sources on intergalactic medium (IGM) properties. Our focus is not merely data fitting, but rather understanding whether the interpretation of Lyman-?? forest observations is changed by using theoretical models incorporating non-stellar sources. By decoupling various sources, we also aim to discern their individual contributions to the reionization process. In this presentation, I??ll discuss our simulation methodology and initial insights into our findings. Thanks, Harry. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The scheme provides the opportunity for doctoral students funded by the Research Councils of UKRI to undertake a three-month placement at one of a selected group of highly influential policy organisations. During their internship, the student undertakes training and experience on a policy topic agreed with their host partner that is relevant to both parties. The intention of the scheme is to embed students in an environment where they can engage with the process of converting research outputs into policy. These internships equip students with transferable skills and training relevant to the future career paths that the student may choose. Please note, that STFC students are only permitted to apply for an internship at either Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology (POST) and Go-Science please. Full details of how to apply, including links to the online application form and guidance documents are available through the UKRI Policy Internships Scheme webpage. The Policy Internships Scheme is coordinated by NERC on behalf of the other Research Councils of UKRI. Any queries relating to the application process should be directed to the NERC Talent and Skills team (researchcareers at nerc.ukri.org) or the relevant host partner. To encourage student uptake, we would ask you to please circulate this opportunity to your students through your usual channels. The title and abstract of the talk are below.
