Hi Karolina,
The seeds arrived today! Thank you for sending the stocks.
I will pass your donation form to my colleague Nazia (cc’ed) who will add the stocks to our catalogue and website.
She will let you know when this process is completed.
Our priority at the moment is to plant new donations (including yours). We have suspended our normal planting cycles during this lockdown to concentrate on stocks are that urgently requested by customers and/or any new lines we may receive.
With this in mind, we will sow your six stocks next week. If everything goes as planned, we should have new seed ready for distribution in 8 weeks approx.
Does this sound ok to you?
Thank you again for your donation,
If there is anything else we can do, please let me know,
Kind regards,

Hi Marcos,
Please see attached our seed donation form completed. It arrived earlier than I thought.
I know that in the current circumstances the seeds will not become available too soon. There is no rush, but can you tell approximately when this could possibly happen?
I am just asking for practical reasons to be ale to refer people to the repository when they ask for this material.
Thank you. Stay safe,
Karolina

Hi Marcos,
This is to let you know that the first batch of seeds have been sent to your home address this week.
I am still waiting for the person who generated the lines to supplement last details in the Excel file.
I believe this will happen within a couple of days. I will forward the form to you as soon as I receive it.
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Karolina

Hi Karolina,
Happy New Year to you too. All the best for 2021. I know this year has not started as hopeful as we would have wished for…
Would it be possible to send the seeds to my home address? With the new restrictions in place, mail delivery is not very reliable at the moment around our University.

Dear Marcos,
Hope you had a good break. Best and Happy New Year to you!
I am planning to send you first batch of seeds (x6 Arabidopsis lines) early next week for donation in NASC.
Seed donation form will follow (I need to fill some last details).
Is it fine to send the material by Fedex in the eppendorf tubes?
Or is there any other way that you would prefer?
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Karolina

Dear Marcos,
Thank you very much for your reply before the holiday season starts.
The information you provided is very helpful and I am wondering if you know how much of the seed sample is required by DEFRA.
In most of the cases we do not have lots of seeds (especially of the old material), but I have heard that we may need 'a lot'.
Do you know by any chance the amounts?
Thank you for offering your help with sending our material to collaborators. I wish we can use this opportunity every time, but unfortunately, we are planning to donate to NASC different lines than those that we need to share with the collaborator. However, it is good to hear that new interface replacing eDomero will be easier. We may need to get in touch with our local DEFRA agent when the system is established.
I will be in touch with you again when we are about to ship our Arabidopsis lines to NASC.
In the meantime, I wish you Happy Holidays and all the best in 2021!
Kind regards,
Karolina

Hi Karolina,
How are you? Nice to hear from you. Ready for the Xmas break?
Yes. Any seed shipment from the UK to the EU will require a phytosanitary certificate from January 1st.
At the moment, all phytosanitary applications are done through DEFRA eDomero’s website: http://edomero.defra.gov.uk/
But this system will be replaced by a new one in early 2021, most likely around February. Our local DEFRA agent will come to NASC in due to time to demonstrate the new system as soon as it is available.
In general terms, the application involves sending your details and your customer/collaborator's information via eDomero first. You are then given an application number.
You must send a sample of the seeds together with a couple of DEFRA documents to your local APHA office for testing and inspection. The certificate should take 3-4 weeks to be ready.
The cost is approx. £160.
But we do not know what changes the new system will introduce. We were told by our DEFRA contact that, in theory, the new interface should be easier than eDomero.
If you are planning to send the same seeds that you will be donating to NASC, it might be easier if we send the seeds to your collaborators.
We are already registered with DEFRA and have a special arrangement with them due to the number of applications we send every month.
In other words, including your application in one of our weekly DEFRA consignments would not represent any extra work or cost to us.
Otherwise, you will have to contact your local/regional DEFRA agent to assist you once the new system is launched.
I should have more information next month.
Does this help?
If you have any other questions, please let me know. Happy to help.
Have a nice weekend,

Dear Marcos,
We have been in touch some 2 years ago when we planned to donate some seeds to NASC. Please see below correspondence.
This has not happened as the material turned out to be rather old. We have managed to renew some of the lines and confirmed the segregating status. Our plan is to start donating some lines early next year.
Sharing of the material directly with collaborators (not through NASC) will become more difficult from January 1st, 2021 due to a requirement for phytosanitary certificate (PC). However, we may still need to do it especially when it comes to unpublished lines.
I am wondering if you know the details of the application for PC.
If so, could you share please?
We are especially concerned about the amount of seeds that is required for that. In many cases we do not have a lot of material.
Thank you for considering.
Kind regards,
Karolina

Hi Karolina,
Thank you for your email.
Yes, of course. No problem. We are happy to receive any number of seeds you might have available for donation.
If you have at least 20 seeds per stock, then we can include your donation in our next bulking cycle which we are planning to start as soon as the heatwave ends.
The donation process is very simple: just fill the attached form. Any information you enter will be added to our catalogue/website. Please send the seeds to:

I will let you know as soon as they arrive.

Question / Feedback: Hi, Our team would like to donate some published Arabidopsis lines to NASC, but we might not have enough material. Can NASC also propagate and harvest seeds for us in order to make them available? If so, how much it costs and what is the amount of seeds that we should send? Look forwrad to hearing from you. Kind regards, Karolina
