[all at arabidopsis.uk] Order confirmation emails

I’m seeing orders and new orgs emails again now. Has it started working on its own or is this as a result of your changes Sean?

Subject: Re: [all at arabidopsis.uk] Order confirmation emails
I’ve been experimenting with alt.nasc.email ** :)
We might be able to use o365-nasc-admin at uniofnottm.onmicrosoft.com<mailto:o365-nasc-admin at uniofnottm.onmicrosoft.com> instead of all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk> to make sure that we don’t repeatedly fall foul of the UoN filtering system.
Membership is currently the people you have listed below.
I believe I have made it possible to email from scripts (i.e. allow people outside the org) but haven’t tested it.
Dan - How onerous would that be and can you see any downside?
It *should* work as bcc / multiple recipient.
The email address already associated with our existing NASC Team site is supposed to be NASC at UniofNottm.onmicrosoft.com<mailto:NASC at UniofNottm.onmicrosoft.com> but it didn’t seem to ‘go anywhere’ when I tried it.
It also includes Iqbal who might not want loads of orders emails. I also can’t find any appropriate accessible settings that might allow email from scripts ...but I haven’t looked exhaustively.
My understanding is that you can also get emails for separate channels on Teams but they are unwieldy and just post to the channel so might not be useful for us.
We have control of the memberships (e.g. through being owners of the Team/group) but the o365 one is discoverable internally (might be a way to mask it if needed) .
Please double-check me.
Thoughts?
Sean
**For the older geeks amongst us - this might be best as alt.nasc.email.die.die.die :) - no? Nobody else geeky that long?

Thanks Sean – what a pain!
I received the mailing list confirmation email without any problems but I’ve added the address as you suggested – didn’t even know that service existed.
Order requests aren’t vitally important since they just reflect what we can see in Servoy/Ordering system, but it’s a handy quick reference. Anyway, I’d say:
Marcos
Linda
Emma
Nazia
Dan
New orgs are normally processed by:
Nazia
Dan
Marcos
Emma (for info)
Cheers,
Dan

Subject: Re: [all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk>] Order confirmation emails
Tried lots of approaches - it is definitely something the UoN is doing to block mailing lists.
The one I have managed to get working for me is now in place, but you will have to agree to be on themailing at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:mailing at arabidopsis.uk> mailing list by clicking on the ‘accept link' in an email sent a little while ago.
Extra barrier - the accept AND subsequent emails is/are likely to be in your institutional spam filter (not the local client) at https://spam.nottingham.ac.uk/
This has the option of allowing emails from chosen senders, which I have done for all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk> - you might like to do that.
Still can’t get the order confirmations even though they are going successfully to all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk>
Who actually needs access to these and the new org requests? How many people?
I’ll carry on trying but its going to have to be later now.
Nothing I have done will break if the UoN filter changes back..

Certainly.
FYI - I have just tried a fake org request with an auto-forward from archive at ..uk<mailto:archive at ..uk> to a non-UoN account. It came through with no trouble.
Just in case you see it.
I will trying adding a non-UoN account to the mailing list and work backwards from that ..but it looks like something to work with.
I’ll forward those emails now - I’ll try a forward (for one) to all@ in the first instance (out of curiosity).

Ahh, right. That’s good. Any chance you can try forwarding them all? We sometimes see these base 64 encoded emails (another mystery) but we can decode them easily enough.

Hi Sean,
Turns out this isn’t straight forward. The order confirmation emails aren’t making it to us which are BCC’d to all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk> but neither are New Organisation requests which should be sent directly to all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk>(customer doesn’t get a copy). Can you see if there are any messages lurking in the archive with ‘New organisation request’ in the subject between 31st December and today?
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks Sean,
Let me try adding all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk> as a normal recipient (as opposed to BCC) for emails from our server before you change anything on the mail server. I’ll try to get that done this morning once I’ve figured out why Servoy on dev is AWOL…

I’ll try to look into a couple of other possibilities for solving this (getting around it) – so it would be useful to know what triggers a lost email (especially if I can replicate or trigger a currently black hole email for testing purposes).
One other possibility is to use another name for the recipient if you are worried about visibility –archive at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:archive at arabidopsis.uk> or receipt@ or…. Obvs anything is possible (receipt might be misunderstood?). Let me know – I’d just send it to the same people or a subset if preferred.
Lastly, something similar happened before and it went away… temp UoN changes I presumed…

Hi Marcos,
Yeah, I’ll do that then. It’s also affecting new orgs emails so obviously does need addressing.
Nothing’s changed at our end and since Sean can’t see anything amiss maybe it’s something the university’s implemented as it passes through their servers. Honestly, not sure how it’s routed once it leaves our server.
Cheers,
Dan

Hey Dan,
I do not have an issue with all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk> being another standard recipient if that fixes the problem. Would that be ok with everybody else?
I can see the orders coming in Servoy/ordering system but it is always useful to have the confirmation email for reference/questions.
Thanks!

Hi Sean,
After a bit of testing it seems the CCs and BCCs are being dropped somewhere along the line. Is there anything you can see to indicate this or unblock them?
Marcos, I can change the code so that all at arabidopsis.uk<mailto:all at arabidopsis.uk> becomes another standard recipient but obviously that will mean the customer sees that address.
Cheers,
Dan

Interesting…
We do receive the emails when customers change details or the “Email confirmation required” ones.
It’s just the last email that seems to be stuck somewhere in the cyberspace...
