That is the problem, that adn the fact that flash only supports a subset of the html you will embed. It's easy to read in any html page from the web, but harder to do a relaible job formatting it. The wikipedia one works OK, but it still loses bits of the article, which is why there is a link to the full article at the bottom. Handling *any* web page would be tricky, but you can start by pasting in the URL to any web page in the wikipedia page type and seeing what happens, as all that does is load and parse the html, dumping it into a textfield,

I've managed a workaround for the problem which involves going to the
'customisation' pages in Goggle Maps via the 'Link' hyperlink and then
pasting the URL for the http:// option from the embedding code and selecting
the check box 'Link to Map'. I'm quoting from memory on this as far as the
names of the links are concerned. The 'src=' link doesn't work, neither does
the full 'embed' code.

At recent training sessions which I've run across the eastern region in the
UK, and which have proved very popular, it has been suggested that the next
version of Xerte OnLine toolkits could contain a generic 'embed' page as this
is becoming increasingly popular. Customisation for different embedded
applications could be handled by a drop down list, but at least the interface
would be less confusing for non-technical users.

Kindest Regards,
Thomas

RSCs - Stimulating and Supporting Innovation in Learning

-----Original Message-----
From: xerte-bounces@lists.nottingham.ac.uk
[mailto:xerte-bounces@lists.nottingham.ac.uk] On Behalf Of Costas Calcanis
Sent: 15 July 2009 18:24
To: Xerte discussion list
Subject: RE: [Xerte] Xerte (minor) issues

Yes, Wikipedia, RSS, YouTube and Flick pages work fine. So
we seek for your help and advice.

1. How can you delete a not used media of a Xerte resource? When
viewing the project properties, the X that is supposed to delete the "not
used media" doesn't seem to do anything.

2. Is it possible to know what access rights a user has to a project
that is shared to him/her? It would be really helpful to know if you have
read-only or full access rights to a shared Xerte resource. Because if you
have only read-only rights, then you could lose any changes you might have
attempted to make.

3. Finally, we haven't been able to make the Google maps component
work. Is there a way to make this work?

We are using Xerte online toolkits v1.0.2.

Regards

Costas

______________________________________________________________________
The views expressed in this e-mail are those of the individual and not
necessarily of Redbridge College.
