[Xerte] locked out of management.php?

Embarrassing but still using a **really** old version of xerte (cant tell the version number early 2011) but need to edit someone else's work (user has left) so thought we could get in via "management.php" - how can we export old work before upgrading (or at least edit someones work when they have left)

I'm also trying to access old Xerte items to export them before upgrading the service (or can we do it in place?)
