Just to be clear though: we're using mediaelement with popcornJS so that's not using videoJS, right? So it should be OK?

Did a quick search and found a couple of references to problems with video.js e.g.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14541449/video-js-breaks-popcorn-js-on-ipad/14542235#14542235

The real shame for me is that the free https://popcorn.webmaker.org/ tool has some great functionality and all the remix and sharing etc and is easy enough for our FWS target audience to use and generates links or embed code for using within Xerte LO's e.g. http://mitchellmedia.co.uk/xot/play_147 which work fine on laptop/desktop but not on ipad :-( Actually that xerte example does work on iPad via puffin browser but that's not really the point is it. It's almost worse that the the content appears to load ok on iPad and certainly the first screen and controls are visible than if it were to do what normally happens with actual Flash content and just displays a blank screen.

I guess a native Xerte page type will be different anyway but as you say stresses the importance of testing before too much work is done.

Then there must be more to it than just popcorn.js, but important to test against the iPad in case it is a feature of the library somewhere,

Cheers,

On the Mozilla gallery page https://webmaker.org/en-US/gallery you can filter by Popcorn examples e.g. this example https://pkittle.makes.org/popcorn/1hyl works fine on my laptop but not on ipad. In fact on iPad I get 2 incompatibility messages the first of which suggests flash is required and the second just says browser incompatible. Perhaps it's the overlay functionality causing the problem on iPad? Anyway there's clearly a difference between the Mozilla tool output or the hosting/playback of it compared with using the js library elsewhere e.g. in Xerte?

OK, good. That would have been a bit of a showstopper if it didn't work on ipads (I wonder why not then?)

Ok cheers at least that loads on iPad and I can see the changes being triggered. Everything else I've looked at created with Popcorn Webmaker displays an incompatibility message on iPad.

I do: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~cczjrt/popcorn (it doesn't do much, but you can see it working or not - the video was the week the dads took over Alice's homework...)

No I mean that everything I've seen/tested from popcorn video examples don't work but perhaps that's only stuff created with the Mozilla tool itself? Do you know of any examples created with just the library for checking/testing on ipad?

You mean the popcorn library doesn't work in Safari on iPads? Really?

As far as I'm aware though popcorn still doesn't work on iPads?

It doesn’t have to be high end output: it could be a mixture of screen capture, whilst dragging things around and narrating the process for example. We’re not looking to turn staff into Flash developers, it’s more about simple approaches that are easy and quick to do.
