If you're using 2.18, please try the following:

1. Start Xerte
2. Pages->Create new Pages projects
3. You're now asked to give the name of the folder where you want this 
project to be located on your disk
4. Select 'Yes' to the question to open the created project
5. Double-Click on Learning Object
6. The wizard pops up, please select Advanced Display
