I used Google Translate to write Happy Birthday for my Iraqi daughter in law but while was touched it amused her that it had western reading order so I really wrote yadhtrib yppah.

Moral of story... Beware of Google!

Subject: [Xerte] Re: Hi, I'd like to translate Xerte to Chinese

A lot of work has been taking place recently to make all displayed text accessible for translation in the next release of Xerte. However Xerte 2.n and XOT are based on actionscript 2. I am not sure if this will handle chinese characters, I am pretty sure it is not working in unicode. I remember briefly looking at trying to translate something to Hebrew as a test, by pasting a translation from Google translate and it messed up the ordering of all the characters.

I found a link here

http://www.ozoneasylum.com/27609

that discussed a possible solution for displaying chinese characters in flash.

Can I suggest that you download desktop Xerte and create a pageTemplates project. Then try adding some chinese into one of the text pages form fields that display text. If you can get that to work you could be well on the way to a solution as far as the display of text in the pages is concerned as translation for the page templates is being implemented by making all the text on the page accessible via the page's form.

Perhaps you would like to post back to the list to let us know how you get on.

Kind regards

Johnathan

The support for languages other than English isn't Finished yet, but it should be in the next version. Not sure when it will be released.

Thanks. I saw that there is a folder named 'language'. I think that toolkit should support multi-language, right? I'd just wanna know if there is a document or tutorial to tell us how to add a new language.

And, besides toolkit, are there other component that we should translate?

Thanks,
Franklin
