I wonder if there's a way we could tweak the engine or wizard or something to show model answer and when its developed model answer results but still enable editing of previous LO's using compareAnswer e.g. some kind of conditional in terms of what rlm to load if the existing data.xml contains compare answer but any new LO's only see the model answer option? Hope that makes sense ;-)

This is what to do I think: leave the model in your installations. Take it out of the xwd so new ones are not created anymore, but existing ones continue to work (as long as the model is in the models folder, it will continue to be loaded and used whenever it is encountered in an xml file.

New LOs can use the modelAnswer page. So you'll never get all the toothpaste back in the tube, but at least you stop any more coming out.

Does that work?

Ok first a bit of background...
What I called the compareAnswer page was an extension of the stimulating question page and existed and was shared long before the model answer even existed e.g. pre Sept 09 http://mitchellmedia.co.uk/230 (Note: The downloads there are well out of date now)
It proved really popular and has been in use on the sandpit and other installations since that time. It was simply added to the page templates xwd and a compareAnswer.rlm model file added to the models directory. No changes to the .rlt required.
Following feedback I also added a compare answer results page which collated and displayed all the instructions, questions and responses wherever that page was added - typically at the end of the LO.

As has been discussed a popular feature of the compare answer page was that a user could go back and forth through each page and until they closed the LO altogether their responses are remembered on each page. Also when they click the feedback button the instruction, question and their answer for that page is copied to the clipboard. On the separate compare answer results page all of the results are copied to the clipboard and there was also an email button that could be improved or replaced with a print button.

In response to today's thread...
I have added the same functionality to the modelAnswer.rlm attached and tested that this all works. Let me know if you want me to commit this?
It also contains the code needed in preparation for adding a modelAnswerResults page but I haven't done that yet but happy to do so if it will be included?

My dilemma with this now though is what to do about all the existing LO's that have used my compareAnswer page.

Cheers
Ron

If someone can supply me with the model files (.rlm) for these pages and a templates.xwd file that contains their menu code then I could take a look at including them in the individual page templates if that is acceptable to the Xerte team.

If the pages require external support e.g. modifications to the templates.rlt file or additional javascript in the html that gets published then this would probably mean I would leave them out for now with a view to their inclusion being reviewed once Xerte 2.18 is released.

Kind regards

Johnathan

Hi Johnathan
The features of Ron's model answer pages that were attractive included the copy of the input AND model answer text to the clipboard ad well as the harvesting of all such data from all such slides into a summary page.

If we could mainstream that there would be some nice value added.

There's a 'model answer' in the new tempales..?

I am seeking to include every page from the current page templates except Xerte as there is little point in this existing as an individual page template, I figured this could be included in the default template.xwd before other pages were added. The menu page is also an issue as it is different from the other pages in the way it functions, but I will take a look at it once I have finished the rest of the pages.

So yes there will be a model answer page. I am working alphabetically through the model files by title and am currently up to Image Viewer so any ideas about changes to the model answer page or the inclusion of other versions of a model answer page would be quite timely.

Are Ron's model answer pages self contained? i.e. is everything that makes them work contained in the rlm file? Or do they need modifications to the template.rlt file, or other supporting files?

Kind regards

Johnathan

We can't create / save a file in Word - the user can cut and paste at the minute. Potentially could do a nicer job of building up the text to cut / paste, or send it to server for some processing / turn it into a doc of some sort on the server.

Hi

With the Model Answer pagetype (type in some text in a box) would it be possible to have a function which allows the user to save the text created to a word file and also allows the editor of the page to choose whether the page should be cleared or not when the user moves forward or back through the xerte course pages?

Thanks in advance,

Andy
