Half an arm. Interesting. Thanks. Maybe it's a problem with masking: the loaded swfs get masked to prevent any animation outside of the displayed area showing. Half an arm tells me the mask is being set on the wrong part of the image - the mask is being applied before the image loads...

I'll look into that. Still doesn't explain the inconsistent results...
