[Xerte] Re: Latest screen cap recommendation?

In some projects I have wanted to use voice over or to include audio
narration. One project I created had pages with images of freemind mind maps
in it, with hot spots over the entries in the mind map. When you clicked on
the hot spot a narration commenced related to that entry in the mind map.

The problem I hit was wanting consistent voicing that I could reproduce
again and again. I found my own voice rather unsuited to voice over (had I
been a silent movie star the introduction of the talkies would have probably
ended my career!). As a solution I turned to using text to speech software
to create the narrations. Originally I tried out State from xtranormal, but
that was a while ago and it requires installing software that did much more
than I needed.

Recently I found this site www.paralink.com
They offer a free text to speech service and the two voices are the best I
have come across to date which provide free access. I think there is a limit
of 1000 characters per translation. Whilst the site offers the ability to
provide a link to embed your text in a web page I think they retain the
audio file. However it is possible to set up your PCs audio mixer to feed
the web pages text to speech reading directly into a program like audacity.
This enables you to save the reading as an mp3 and then process it if
required e.g. to normalise it or slow it down slightly.

I remember doing a project a while back with voice recordings from several
young people. A great idea until the time came when the project needed
updating and the young people where no longer available.

Worth a thought.

Kind regards

Johnathan
