The problem is, as far as the engine goes, the file request failed. There are other reasons for that - so the best message would be 'the file failed to load.'

much as i appreciate the furiousness, I was half-suggesting that if we
know we are online, we know the file exists, then the 404 pretty much
means "no mime types" so perhaps the wizard / engine could display an
error to that effect, rather than hanging?
