I get the same issues when trying to embed those ones in ILIAS LMS. So I
think it still must be a youtube side of things whether deliberate or not.

I copied the embed codes for those videos from their YouTube pages. (You can
click through and see for yourself.) 

I think there must be another reason.

I think that's a copy protection issue, some video content owners choose to
not allow their videos to be embedded.

I find that some YouTube videos work, but others don't. For example, I can
play ones from Harvard, but not from the Guardian or the BBC. See examples
