My email address is subscribed and the post was relatively short.

Please ignore my confusion in the second post above, I realised afterwards
that my mail list was still listing "sent mail" which was why my posting
appeared in my list as soon as I sent it.

The normal situation for me is that if I post to the Xerte list then my only
confirmation that it has been received is when someone replies to it, as the
reply shows up in my inbox.
