Probably for exactly this reason. Other things in AW make a lot of sense as a xerte engine developer, like no function level scope...

EventsSuspended

When EventsSuspended is greater than zero, Authorware prevents all event responses from interrupting the current flow and saves all events in the EventQueue. When EventsSuspended is zero, Authorware processes the pending events.
