[Xerte] Re: New Templates - videos in navigators? coloured subpages?

1) Good point about the Navigators and video. I'm thinking particularly of the benefits of Xerte for people with low literacy levels (deaf/LLDD etc) who can get lots of benefit currently from synched video template and Multiple perspectives. What I'm looking for is a way of combining the benefits of both eg

Currently I can have text AND image in a synched video sub page but text only in a Multiple perspectives sub page. The multiple perspectives are great for people with low literacy but if the sub page allowed text AND image as above it would allow the text description of the video to be supported by a key image as well (maybe even more than one image like the synch video).

2) In terms of panel transparency my main concern is that currently the accessibility benefit of colour changing actually only works on the least exciting of the templates - plain text / text and media etc. Although there are potentially ways to work around this using free third party tools like ssOverlay it would be more satisfactory if someone electing to change their font/background colour themes had the change carried to as many sub pages as possible. Whether it would be technically or even pedagogically feasible is a different matter (eg you don't want to be dragging blue labels to a blue target label on a blue background in a timeline activity) but even if navigator panels were to inherit the changes it would be a good step forward to begin with.

BTW. The info on Alpacas above isn't necessarily rooted in good science...

Is the solution to add video to the navigators, or is the solution to have some other means of sequencing video?

Adding it to the navigators is a bit of a pain but developing alternative means for grouping / displaying videos can be done.

Multiple perspectives page already provides one way: I'm sure we could contrive several ways of displaying and playing from a number of videos.

Can we look at the problem from a 'what are you trying to achieve' point of view ?

With the transparent sub pages, are you talking about just the navigators, or anywhere there's a white panel?

If there's a chance (I have no idea how simple or complex this request might be), having the option to add video into Navigator sub pages would be wondrous...

And having the option to make sub pages transparent so they could inherit user colour changes would also be great.

Not got a slot myself at Alt this year, but helping with some stuff with the Vet School.

We talked before about doing a quarterly update, and managing that as a kind of release cycle: wishlist, development, testing, release, new wishlist, etc, so this is to start that going, and start a new cycle from now till Christmas.
