Well, I just installed the whole package on another computer and everything works fine. Now that I have it working, I have a few questions but I'll put that in a separate post.

I'm not sure, don't know enough php admin to know how to tell php where mysql is. Sorry.

No MySql section in phpinfo. MySql was already installed so xampp didn't do the install. However, the xampp control panel says that MySql is running. Seems odd that it knows about it but php doesn't. I tried putting a default host, port, etc. in php.ini but no luck.

Well the m in xaMpp is mysql.

The xampp install will do a mysql connect and die on that.

Does your phpinfo page show a mysql section?

You're right... I put an echo function_exists("mysql_connect"); as the fist line and it returns nothing. This was a fresh xampp install and I already had php installed on IIS. Wondering if that's confusing things. I did the "for XAMPP people" link first and get a blank page. I tried the full install and that's where I'm seeing this error... should have said that earlier...

there is a function_exists if statement that checks for them. Maybe the boolean value your system returns isn't what it expects?

I'm just trying to install Xerte and it's failing with a message about "Sorry your PHP install lacks the functions mysql_connect and mysql_query, and without these this installer cannot create the database." but I use mysql_connect in my php programs now. Does anyone know what I can check?

Thanks,
