Ah, OK. It's a case of the accessibility option being a wild card.

I thought it was something to do with screen reading not being able to
pick up the embedded fonts or something.

p.s. what's the trick to setting focus on a text entry.
The archives only say "I managed to set focus!", but no technique. :)

Its hard for us to cover everythigbecause in Xerte's default interface,
the accessibility options allow the user to change the font size and
face. If you are happy to be in control of the font, then using embedded
fonts and the sub / super embedded fotns is probably the way to go.

I think you could use these with a stylesheet to define

sub {

  face: subscriptFontName;

}

And then have and <super> supported in the text. I've never tried
the combination of a stylesheet with embedded fonts...

- Use the embedded subscript - superscript font. This works quite well
if you can control the font display. Embed the fonts by making a
resources.swf with them in, then use the embedded font on the learning
object or text icons. You can embed normal verdana and the sub / super
fonts, and then mix them in a text icon <font
face="verdana">H</font<font face="sub">2</font><font
face="verdana">O</font>. Drawbacks are i) this is a pain in the arse;
ii) there are good reaons not to embed fonts - in toolkits its the
accesibility stuff, there are others;

Thanks Julian  & John.

Could you expand a bit on this one.

i.e. the accessibility issue.

If it's what I'm thinking, could it be perhaps be faked out with some
metadata offscreen somewhere?

Dave
