Why not. 

Right now, the best collection of examples is the source code for Page
Templates. It's a bit more advanced because it is data driven, but
nevertheless, you can start to see how things are put together in there.

None as yet, Jonathan, but the thread is working towards creating an  
online session where such topics might well be usefully covered.

For what it's worth, you are not alone in requesting a worked  
example... maybe that is precisely what the online session should aim  
to deliver as an outcome?
