[Xerte] Problems Embedding Interactive Flash Animations

Hello,

More advice.

In templates, add the flash animation.

At the top look at the optional properties bar, choose Interactivity,
then click add, then set this to be native swf.

I have a basic swf with a button in and it works for me.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply regarding this.

Yes I am in control of the source code. It has simply been created
through flash. The swf fails right at the first frame where the user
needs to click to continue. The button rollover works but nothing
happens when clicked.

I have embedded it in an Xerte project directly as a component and it
works fine.

I have had a look through the graphic options and nothing is obvious to
me. Even when I remove the rollover tool tip and select to use a native
swf (also removing the control bar) the problem persists.

Kind Regards

John can maybe comment on this, but there are options for interactive
flash movies on the graphic options aren't there? I think the textSWF
page places a rollover event on the 'image' (in this case your movie)
that preventsyou interacting with it. There is an optional property I
think to prevent that if required.

Are you in control fof the swf's source code? What sort of swf is it?
How does it fail?

Otherwise try it as a component directly in Xerte and see if you can get
it to work at all? Let's establish that first.

J

Hello,

Just had to check on the first bit, people often want to add swfs made
from other apps.

We definitely have SWFs working here using the online version, but I've
just tried and it failed.

In theory you could build a new model for the page you want? Look at the
jing and flash paper pages.

Hopefully you'll get a better answer tomorrow (its not really my side of
things).

Hi Pat

Yes it means a swf generated from flash with interactions in it rather
than a basic animation.

When I create a resource normally (not using pageTemplates.xtp) I have
the opportunity to add a 'component' which means that the swf is able to
keep its interactions. This option is not available through
pageTemplates.xtp and I would like to know if there is a way to add a
component through the pageTemplates or is there simply something I am
missing...

Kind Regards

Hello,

Does "interactive flash document" mean a flash generated swf - or
something else?

I've just checked online with an interactive swf and it worked ok for
me, but that was out of flash.

Hi All!

I have just started 'playing around' with Xerte and have repurposed some
previously created learning materials. So far everything seems to be
working well and it appears to be a very effective and useful tool!

Here's the problem...I downloaded the pageTemplates.xtp file and have
hit a bit of a wall! I have no problem with creating many different
question types and embedding video/images/text etc. However when I try
to embed an interactive flash document using the template wizard it
takes away any interaction that is included in the animation thus making
it useless!

I have had a look into the code behind this and have looked into the
textSWF.rlm included in the models folder and have noticed that the swf
is being treat as a graphic rather than a component and I feel that this
may be the problem. I have already tried to change this code to use a
component and have so far failed...Does anyone have any ideas of how I
could fix this?

Kind Regards
