[Xerte] Altering Stage Size

200 hours of content is a lot, so it will be worth getting this right.

And that....

So ideally work out which page types you want to work with, and
modifying those to deal with the new page size.

You will also need to change the layout in each page type to work with
the new size.

Ok,

Well what I would do is the following

Take a copy of the modules/xerte/parent_templates/Nottingham and
modules/xerte/templates/Nottingham folders

Then rename the Nottingham part to something else, such as Birmingham
for example.

Edit the RLO, look for the foldername and template version parameters on
the root Learning Object node. Change the folder name to be something
other than Nottingham.

Rename the RLT and the XWD to match whatever folder name you have
already chosen (e.g. Birmingham).

Then add these folders back on to the server

Then open up your database, and duplicate the entry for the Nottingham
template that is already in the originaltemplatedetails table, making
sure that your change the Nottingham value for whatever you called your
new folder (Birmingham).

Also make sure you give the template a new ID, and I'd give it a new
name and description so you can distinguish between the two.

Then you'll have "your" new template on the system, as well as still
supporting the existing template when we update or modify that.

As far as I can tell, that should do it, but no guarantees.

Once you've done that, check play, preview and peer review will work for
the new template type.

Hi Pat,
I have over 200 hours of e-learning content to repurpose into Exerte and
this requires collaboration between teams. It would be far easier for us
to set the stage of the Online toolkit to 1018,682 rather than export
individual projects. Do you know what files need to be changed?

Many thanks, Garry

I think it looks for RLT's still on import.

Note that the method I suggested wouldn't allow for it working if
imported back in. You can export a version, change the stage size and
then host it somewhere else (you'll need to modify the HTML in
index.html as well).

If you want to change all your templates to be the new size you can, but
you'll also need to change a lot of HTML on the site itself. So I would
suggest the approach above.

Hi Patrick,
I work with Jeremy and he posted this question on my behalf.

I've had limited success using this technique but failed on the
importing of the zip or RLO file. Here's what I did.

1. Created a new project in Xerte Online toolkit.
2. While the project was highlighted, I selected the "properties" button
and the "Export" tab.
3. Clicked the "Export SCORM" link and saved the zip package to my hard
drive.
4. Unzipped the package and double clicked the "learningobject.rlo".
5. In the desktop version of Xerte I added the stage size and set it to
1018,682.
6. Viewed the project and the stage size had changed to the desired
settings.
7. Saved the project and Zipped the entire project using ZipCentral.
8. Using Xerte Online toolkit, selected "workspace" folder and clicked
the "Properties" button and then the import tab.
9. I tried to import the zip package but an error message appeared,
"File transfer has failed.****Only Xerte templates are currently
imported."
10. So I tried to import the "learningobject.rlo" file but this failed
too.

Where am I going wrong?

Regards, Garry

As an experiment try creating an RLO with your content in, exporting it
from toolkits, opening it in desktop xerte, closing the template window,
then looking on the learning object node for the stage size.

That might do it.

Hello All,

We have been trying to import some content from another application, it
is flash based, wrapped up in a scorm package.
One of the issues we have is that this content requires a stage area of
893 x 620, but Xerte defaults at 800 x 600.

Can anyone tell me whether this can be altered?

Is it as simple as creating a new template / theme, or is there more to
it than that?

Thanks
