<div>Now that Xerte and XOT are going there separate ways I can still see a benefit to keeping separate xwds for each page type.<br></div><div><br></div><div>I think maintaining the modular approach will make it easier to maintain the individual page types both from a translations point of view and from a code point of view. It will also be easier to manage the addition (or removal) of pages from an install. If each page type has its own model file and its own xwd file then changes to one page cannot compromise the performance of another page.</div>
<div><br></div><div>I can appreciate the attraction for XOT developers to go straight to the single template.xwd file that contains all the page wizard forms, but maybe a better way forward would be to have a set of individual xwd files in the XOT install and then have a facility to build a new templates.xwd file in XOT without having to make recourse to the Xerte desktop environment. Then changes could be made to the individual page's xwd file and tested after building a new templates.xwd file. Maybe this could be automatic if any individual xwd file has been changed? (not sure what is feasible here).</div>

We made \Xerte\pages the 1 single source of templates. So that is what I am going to use to generate zips<br><br>Furthermore, the small xwd</span><span lang="ZH-CN" style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun">ˋ</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">s have more to do with maintenance and translation than, the difference between Xerte standalone and XOT.<br>
<br>So, if you think that the 1 single source should be moved to the xot repository, that</span><span lang="ZH-CN" style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:SimSun">ˋ</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">s fine with me, as long as we agree, which one to maintain. Even then, for the translations I would really like them seperated, because then as an author for a specific page I only have to care about the files for that model. In the past I would have added them to the big xwd file, but I am not sure how I add them to small .xwd files and then create the big one.</p>
<p style="margin-left:72.0pt"> </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:108.0pt">Second related question: is there any point trying to maintain this link between xerte and toolkits? This is a good example of something taking me longer to do because of the backward compatibility than it needs to.</p>
