[Xerte-dev] Re: Students and staff invited to pitch ideas for inclusive learning technologies

The Doodle for the 18th only listed 3 slots in the morning. Fay, Tom and myself indicated availability during those slots but Inge not.

I suggest we keep 14:00 on 25th for the wider dev discussion but a quick meeting on 18th to discuss this ideas pitch and possible webinar proposals for the Apereo online conference and/or the OSI project.

So not sure if Friday 18th should be pm or one of the already listed morning slots? http://doodle.com/poll/p4cf4kss4x2e6czs

Alistair - what's your availability on the 18th?

I have never understood how next Friday can possibly be mistaken for this Friday.

Pheesh.

Happy to talk both Fridays if you want! I’m free on Friday afternoon.

Just to be clear the dev meeting is 25th at 14:00 rather than 18th? Potentially "this Friday" and "next Friday" could lead to confusion! ;-)

That said is it worth having a quick meeting on 18th too. A potential bid here and proposals for the online conferences in some cases are too late to discuss on the 25th?

I’m not sure how much work the epub thing would be, £5k sounds a bit tight for that. The printable might be doable, although there might be more work in that than I think. We’re meeting next Friday at 14.00 if you want to join us then?

Maybe the Xerte export to EPUB3 module we were wanting to do if we’d got the Erasmus bid?

Having an easily “printoutable” version of a Xerte LO would be extremely useful.

Is it worth having a call this week to look at how we might pitch it? I’m happy to help draft something but it would be best if submitted via an external organisation.

Might be worth pitching an idea for some xerte development?

Hi Julian,

Accessible by design competition

Have you got a bright idea for using digital technology to support the access and inclusion of the UK's learners, staff and researchers? We’d like to help you turn it into a reality.

Following on from our successful Summer of Student Innovation competitions, our latest elevator challenge ‘Accessible by design <http://emails.jisc.ac.uk/c/1f0clE6atgCFrKJkh0leZ> ’ invites teams of staff and students to submit innovative ideas that could provide solutions for individuals or a whole organisation.

 <http://emails.jisc.ac.uk/c/1f0dqce0a0lUSgWz3diHx>

If you're looking for inspiration, have a look at our accessible version of YouTube <http://emails.jisc.ac.uk/c/1f0dXthV0ndxAx3brjMqO> , guidance on supporting learners with disabilities <http://emails.jisc.ac.uk/c/1f0euKlPQK5aiN9NPqga5> and how to use mobile learning for accessible teaching <http://emails.jisc.ac.uk/c/1f0f21pKH6WN13gqdwJTm> .

To enter the competition you will need to upload a short video and text about your idea to our elevator website <http://emails.jisc.ac.uk/c/1f0fzitFxtOpJjn2BDdCD> . Submissions must have the potential to benefit more than just a single institution.

We'll announce the most popular ideas in late November 2015. These will receive £5000 in funding to support them through the discovery stage in the autumn and spring terms. In March, the successful teams will showcase their work at a national event.

We will develop a selection of the successful projects into products so that universities, schools and colleges across the country can reap the benefit.
