that merge.<

Hi John
yes me neither. I seem to recall that was an attempt by David Goodwin to
avoid any need for setup at all but I've never got that to work and I agree
it should be a choice rather than imposed. Obviously if it doesn't work or
is problematic on different configurations it should probably be removed
altogether.

I've wondered if we should instead distribute an updated version of maxos
but just xos! Perhaps part of our planned release. I have all sorts of
variants of XAMPP some with multiple versions of Moodle, Mahara, Xerte etc
but I think a simple Xerte only version with the next release together with
Xerte/Apereo branding etc might be a good idea. I'd be happy to work on that
but as far as I'm aware xampp is GPLv2 so does that cause a problem?

Then aside from licensing the thing that's always prevented me from doing
this anyway is the inferred support. Thomas and RSC-e obviously provided
that for MAXOS where possible but if we were going to share our 'project
version now' we'd need to agree to support as a community.

Thoughts?

Hi Ron

Yes I think the sqllite stuff messed up the process a bit, I dont I've ever
not seen the errors on running / for the first time since that merge.

Should the / index.php really be making any changes other than to run /setup
if no database found. I'd probably rather see any setup of databases done in
/setup with the user explicitly being given the option of choosing sqllite
etc...

I do always run the full install but just to clarify I also always visit
/setup too and like Tom do that I didn't get any errors.

If I were to just visit localhost/xerte rather than localhost/xerte/setup I
do get errors but I think there have been there since 2.1 too and from
memory relate to the sqllite stuff? Haven't ever got that to work.

Hi Tom

Yes thats the behaviour that I was getting. I tried the full server setup
(on xampp) first and it didnt work. I prefer that as I have more control
over the setup and I know Ron always uses it too. Got a load of errors and
then tried the xampp setup and that did work fine.

Hmmm...

What I did was:
1. install latest xampp
2. download unstable from community website 3. unzip that in the
xertetoolkits folder of xampp 4. Start localhost/xertetoolkits (it gives me
errors, I will look into that) 5. Start localhost/xertetoolkits/setup 6.
Choose xampp install

It seems to work fine.

Step 6 doesn't work in IE11, I'll lok into that as well.

Regards,

Tom
