You could fix them by embedding the page. It's easy to construct the url to embed from the search parameters:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=xerte

and then just make an iframe out of that.

Wouldn't we need an api key for that? ;-)

Isn't the point that if we can we need to fix all the broken LO's currently using the feed page or at least any linked from a fixed installation.

I think enabling the feed page to work when exported is a slightly different concern although ideally that should work too.

Obviously an OER exported and imported into another Xerte install will use the key of that new install.
An exported LO for offline use would need online access anyway.
An LO exported for use via import into a vle seems like the most common export where this would currently be a problem.

Thinking differently, why don't we just embed the youtube search page and forget about the API calls?

Exported is a sort of context neutral reuse, with an OER it is any use you feel like doing under the license.
I may plausibly just want the youtube page and nothing else, and then to get other feeds as well.

If I have something which uses a key I basically take a punt on how much it will be used and how techie the reusers are.

The phoning home makes sense, would make setting up a server easier as well (what would stop someone creating a youtube page is the key wasn't set up?)
