Sounds like a useful option! ;-)

Subject: [Xerte-dev] Optional parameters in the new editor

Hi,

Ronald van Loenen made a list of all optional parameters and where they are
suited in XOT. (It's in Dutch;)). Is it usefull to translate this in English
so we have a list to work with?

Bye,
Inge

Sounds like a good plan. It will be good to get the editor code into
develop. The other things we talked about when we met last week are below:
does anyone want to add anything else?

Media Lesson (Fay)
Positive feedback on developments. Ongoing work to build an editor, bearing
in mind the need for simplicity. Initially developed as a page type, with
ability to turn off headers and footers for a standalone piece. To
investigate for the use of youtube / vimeo / Kaltura sources as well as
local files.

Video (Fay)
To investigate possibility of using streaming services as well as standalone
video files in all places where video is used in the templates. It's much
better to use a streaming service like youtube than to upload mp4s, and it
would be good if this option existed in all places where video can be
included.

Page Type Review (Julian)
Worthwhile reviewing all the existing page types with a view to identifying
templates that are no longer needed, primarily those designed for the old
Flash runtime. A longer term goal is to address responsive design in the
remaining page types.

Parameters (Julian / Tom)
Related, worthwhile reviewing each page type and ensuring the parameters are
consistent - there are some page types where parameters are not named
consistently from one page to another

New HTML5 Editor (Tom)
Complete except for the drawing tools, and will use the existing Flash based
tools for now. Only really useful for the 'interactive diagram' page type,
where the interactivity is drawn. A lot of work to rebuild this in HTML5 /
Canvas.

Workspace (Ron)
To review and possibly make some quick changes to the workspace to make
better use of space (we tend to find good use is not always made of the
panels beneath the workspace), and to invert items when highlighting.

Ok. succeeded in doing that (almost)

I need someones help to catch the close event to ask whether the drawing
should be saved or not.

Other than that, it works, only now you have to make sure that you push the
save button yourself.

See the usual test install :-)

I am going to take the following actions in the course of this week:

1. Commit editor code to editor branch
2. Merge editor branch into develop (at that point we have a unstable
release on the website) 3. Make a closed beta-test forum with instructions
4. Make a cosed beta install available 5. Continue implementing the
deprecated attribute for the xwd pages and parameters on the editor branch
to be merged into develop later on 6. Look at the list of issues and decide
what features to implement for the next release 7. After we have finished
the features create branch 2.2 (or whatever version number we are thinking
of (3.1?)) to start a public beta

Let me know if this suits everyone?

No, that's definitely a bad idea. The customHotspot page is definitely
not easy to change to use SVG data!
I'll go ahead and create a specialised drawEdit.swf for the HTML editor.

Hmmm.

The current flash editor uses LocalConnection() to comminucate the
drawing xml between the old flash wizard and the drawing editor
itself. So I would need to modify the drawEdit.swf (draw.fla) to
communicate through javascript.

We still would only have a flash drawing editor.

I found svg-edit, a javascript editor that produces SVG data.

http://svg-edit.googlecode.com/svn/branches/stable/editor/svg-editor.
html

We could theoretically convert the current drawing shapes to SVG. Is
that a more viable road? (Would still need to change/edit somethings,
like how to get the images in svg-edit)

So what is the best route to take....

Tom
