Yes,

As Pat pointed out css3 allows multiple background images but for greater support you can always layer x divs and then fill them appropriately...

Current icons are 16x16 and putting symbols on them is nigh impossible... 12x12 or 10x10 will be unidentifiable with icons on i suspect...

I will play around and see if I can figure out a look and feel. I like the idea a lot, but I would like to see it implmented really nicely graphically.

Are stacked icons posssible? Put a symbol in each corner (challenging, I know, with only 8x8px)?

Hi Inge

There is a little people icon in the image for 'shared with another user'. Haven't figured out how to cleanly detect if LO is shared with you... But yes it is on the cards...

Hi,

Katrien from Belgium has the suggestion that there could be also a symbol for share LO's?
She also likes the symbols on eacht row and not only on the selected item.

Seriously though - I really like the functionality John and would find it very useful personally - especially if the icons can actually link to those sections of properties at some point. I don't think the icons themselves can just be a toggle e.g. public/private because there are obviously more options to set than just on/off. But in a way that's the point - if all they do is give a basic idea of the properties for a given LO without providing more value than that then you still have to select the LO then select properties and I know lots of users including those responsible for supporting staff and students in their organisations that would say it's unecessary clutter. That's certainly not a criticism of what you've added John but a bit like moodle you only see all the edit icons when you turn editing on so the toggle would be the equivalent. The alternative but a much longer term discussion/wishlist might be default and user profile settings. Perhaps that's 3.2! ;-)

No, in my opinion you should just show them.

Really, people are used to icons.

If we need to accommodate people who would hate those icons, then Ron's proposal is best: provide a global toggle

It almost makes the initial driver pointless though since you need to select each LO to see the icons… perhaps a tick box or a show button that toggles or shows icons that then fade out again…

The moodle off grey icons might make sense as they'll blend better with any theme?

I think the icons make sense, but should they be toggle buttons?

I could see a case that the interface could be tweaked a little - the properties panel isn't really properties anymore (it's more properties and do lots of important stuff).

2.2 makes sense, but I think the icons make the interface easier to use - would they confuse a new user - probably, but they might also demonstrate some of the features the system has which people have missed (or is that atypical techie talk)

As well as 'is shared, be good to see 'is a share' (i.e. I'm sharing someone else's project).

Can we leave this until 2.2?

Hi all,

So from my conversation with Pat, I have taken a look at the feasibility of adding icons to Workspace to show-at-a-glance certain statuses:

  Private/Public
  Flash vs Javascript
  RSS syndicated
  Shared with a collaborator
(there may be others we can do that i'm not aware of)

I have rewritten the SQL query for Workspace to gather the required data and implemented the icons but as you can imagine Workspace soon gets cluttered (see image XOT_Icons_All). I have also been playing with the idea of only showing the images for the row that is selected (XOT_Icons_Selected) - but then I know you can select more than 1 row so not sure how to handle that...

What do you think? I'm looking for ideas...
