[Xerte-dev] Re: Meet up?

I committed some code last night to add in an API tab in workspace in preparation for our fully fledged API. To make sure that I hadn’t knackered any of Pat’s code I did a fresh install from trunk and it went through without a problem…

I have seen that error reported on this list or in the forum though and have had it myself (the blanks in database.php) but it’s definitely not the trunk version so if it’s a recent v2.0 zip then perhaps something that fixed the problem before wasn’t added to v2.0 branch…

Seem to myself or Ron advising someone to add the details to database.php manually at step 2 before moving onto step 3…

See below, can anyone help?

Is this a bug in the setup code?

Hi Julian,

I'm getting a server setup at http://xerte.wyversolutions.co.uk/<http://xerte.wyversolutions.co.uk/setup/page4.php>

Working through the process is fine, apart from when I got to http://xerte.wyversolutions.co.uk/setup/page4.php

It gave the message: Sorry, the system cannot connect to the database at present. The mysql error is No database selected

I had to go and edit database.php to add in the database name and hostname.

But it seems to have forgotten the admin username & password I entered. Where are those stored so I can reset them?

Thanks,

Mark

I don’t have a sandbox I’m afraid. Could you set one up? Otherwise we could use the techDis one, but it’s not up to date, i.e. doesn’t have the new HTML5 stuff in there yet, which is really what we want to show.

Otherwise people can set it up on windows using xampp, but I don’t really want to try and do that during a session, it’ll get too hectic. Have you got a handy server?

Thanks Julian,

That's great. I've added it to the page: http://www.elearningnetwork.org/events/open-source

Can you confirm you'll have a sandbox site setup for people to play with? Or do I need to set one up?

Thanks,

Mark

30 mins sounds fine, that’s how long I usually take to demo it. You can’t author content on iPads (yet), but I can cover all that off and people can play around with some hands on stuff whatever platform they’ve got.

Send me venue details and times, I’ll look forward to it,

Hi Andy,

I'm in London on the 2nd July… perhaps we'll meet up at the East Midlands Learning Technology Group sometime. Have you got an invite to that?

I'll be getting an update on attendees early next week. Although most people tend to book in at the last minute!

Julian, it'll be good to have you there. Are you happy to run a 30 minute hands-on workshop with a small group? They will be rotating around a series of workshops of which yours would be one. I'm assuming there's a demo version of Xerte that can be accessed over the internet? Many people will be on iPads, so it'd be good to be able to use the new HTML5 version, if it's available?

Hi Mark

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. July 3rd is fully booked I’m afraid, but I am free Tuesday afternoon on July 2?

In terms of the 12th, I am now booked on another event I cannot shift. However, my colleague and lead developer for Xerte, Julian Tenney, is available. Are you able to confirm who will be attending?

Many thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

Sorry for the delay in getting back.

Would 3rd July work for you?

Are you still OK to come to the Open Source day on 12th July and give a hands-on demo of Xerte?

We're looking at running a set of 30 minute workshops, with about 8-10 people in each group, during the afternoon. So, it would just be to give a flavour for what's possible. Participants will have their own laptops, and wifi access. If hands-on won't work so well, then it could just be a straightfoward demonstration.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Andy,

I've just found this email. It looks like I never replied to it. I'm really sorry.

Do you have any time in the next few weeks to meet up? I'm happy to come across to Nottingham if that would be easier. Wednesday afternoons are best for me, but I can be flexible if necessary.

All the best,

Mark

That's fine. These things happen. If someone else from the team could be there that would be great.

I'd still appreciate the chance to meet with you to discuss Xerte. I'm hitting a number of situations outside of the HE sector where Xerte may be an ideal solution, but I wanted to talk it through with you.

Hi Mark

Apologies, I now find myself double booked in July. There is an outside chance I will be free, so have kept this in my diary. I appreciate this isn’t good news. I will see if someone else from the team can attend as a fallback.

Hi Andy,

I was wondering if, before the ELN Open Source day in July, it would be possible to meet up and have a chat about Xerte and the other work your team is doing?

I can easily get to Nottingham. When would suit you?
