[Xerte-dev] Re: Angular js

I know you've said the comment was tongue in cheek John but thought I should add a couple of comments...

1. Having just helped an organisation with their Moodle upgrade on external hosting (they aren't using Xerte but the issue is relevant) and obviously similar scenarios elsewhere too I'd say it's important to try to avoid any requirement of further PHP upgrades if it can be avoided. e.g. in this particular case the organisation has had to stick with upgrading to Moodle 2.2 rather than anything later because anything later requires at least PHP 5.3.3 and they are stuck with 5.3.2! Before you say changes hosts that's what they now plan but can't until the end of the year.

2. I get involved in a lot of discussions about why IT teams can't or won't install XOT. I often use the argument that all it requires is PHP and MySql which you already have and will work on IIS or Apache too. As we know there can still be a barrier that it's currently MySQL only rather than MSSQL and I know that's a separate discussion but in my experience I'd say again it's important to try to avoid any other server side components that aren't likely to already be in place unless such things can be part of the installer/setup/upgrade code.

I know we all appreciate this but just thought I'd summarise from my experience of trying to help people get their IT team to install.

Ron

It's ok... it was more tongue in cheek... Laravel needs to be installed on the server too...

We should use a framework server side too though... I'm looking at a few and then we can discuss if you want...

I don't think so. No one is going to update their PHP installation just so someone can install toolkits.
