[Xerte-dev] Re: Advanced Options in Wizard

Before the internationalisation actions were taken there was some
inconsistency between the different models. Some models had text that was
displayed to the user in the model for the page e.g. a "feedback" label for
a button. Other pages provided for some author access by including text for
buttons in the xwd form. Typically these latter pages, as I recall, tended
not to have many entries in their xwd forms.

When I converted the pages for internationalisation I removed all language
text from the models and made it accessible from the xwd form. The
availability of a language check box came part way through that process, as
a result of some pages e.g. the quiz page, having a lot of new elements to
the form, which resulted in the form being significantly larger than the
display space, requiring significant scrolling of the form in order to see
all the fields.

So the current situation is one in which there are some pages, like the
hangman page that were modified for internationalisation prior to the
availability of the language check box. The forms for these pages tends to
still fit within the available display space with no need to scroll the
form to see all the fields in the form.

For perfect consistency fields in forms, which have values that are likely
to remain the same for every page in which that page type is used (that is
button labels, button widths, text such as "Question" "of" etc.) perhaps
should be flagged in the xwd form with the language attribute so that they
only display when the language option check box is ticked. However this
does not compromise the functioning of the form.

I did not revisit every form once the language check box became available
as the forms did not require scrolling. At the time I was more focussed on
dealing with the changing requirements of the Connector pages - removal of
separate language sections in the xwds, adding features to the Hotspot
Image Connector etc.

The "advanced" option was not a feature I used in any of the forms. I think
the feature will prove useful, but the changes I was making at the time all
fell under the heading of "language".

Kind regards

Johnathan
