Ouch. That stung. :-)
Not a "Xerte is dead" thread.I'm not clinging to Xerte as2 or 3 or XOT or desktop and saying "Freeze!". I know it has to change and that it will change for the better.
I'm saying (from experience) that people get pissed if they feel they were misled. That's all.The Xerte 3 thing is a minor example. What, no upgrade path 2>3? WTF?

also, the endless 'Authorware is Dead' threads from its users eventually contributed to its demise, IMHO.

Bear in mind we've already been delivering to a defunct runtime for about four years. There is no AS2 future for flash, and hasn't been since about 2006. Everything is about AS3 for Flash. Every new release of the flash player I dread
that something crucial in the AVM1 will just stop working, and we'll be up the swannee.

The thing to remember is where the traction is: the thousands (and there really are thousands) of users that use Xerte Online Toolkits and want to just wash and go. That's where we've got the momentum. So far, the iOS thing isn't a
major issue for them, but it's going to become one, and they will need a solution. These users are not developers, and their needs are paramount in my mind.

Also, the way to avoid this happening again is to really embrace open standards. I've always resisted the open standards zealots a bit because, frankly, they've been rubbish at doing what I needed to do - rich, interactive stuff - and develop once, deliver
to any browser. But that is changing.

I agree Pat, but that's not my point.

"make it clear that XOT as it will be at release of 1.8 won't die or cease to be of use"

Well, Authorware as it was at version 7 didn't die or cease to be of use. (I'm making an AW widget as we speak).
But I wouldn't counsel any clients to use Authorware.
