Subject: [Syrphidae] Species needed for Taxo-Fly

Dear all,

Most of you might be aware of the EU funded project Taxo-Fly (
https://www.luomus.fi/en/taxo-fly), for which I?m responsible for
photography. We try to photograph every European hoverfly and over the last
two years we succeeded for many species. Still we have a shortlist of
species of which we have only poorly pinned material or no material at all,
see attachment.

If you were lucky this field season or you have some of the species
mentioned in the list in your collection, it would be great if we could use
them for photography. If you can help us, or have questions or comments,
please let me know.
By the end of the winter I will come back to you with for sure a much
shorter list!

I was wondering if any of you have the following reference to share with me:

?uchi, Y. (1943). Diptera Sinica. Syrphidae I. Notes on some syrphid flies
belonging to the subfamily Cerioidinae from east China. Shanghai
Sizenkagaku Kenkyusyo Iho [J. Shanghai Nat. Sci. Instit.].

Also, other ?uchi?s syrphid papers, if any, would be appreciated.

Here a reminder of the existence of the Journaal van syrphidae an
international journal covering all topics concerning Syrphidae.
Started in 2022 and having published 4 papers and processing 4 additional
ones the journal starts rolling.

The journal is financed through the Syrphidae Fondation and membership or
donations are welcome to guarantee the survival of the journal.

Frank Van de Meutter and I have been working on an English translation of
our Dutch field guide. The book is finished and will be published within a
month, October 26 at Bloomsbury:

?         The book has the same 384 species as the Dutch edition, but on
top of that we added over 10 species to cover the UK and Denmark as well.

?         It?s not just a translation, it has many new improved photos, the

?         Every species has its own account including a description,
similar species, ecology, spectacular macrophotography, a distribution map
and flight time diagrams.

?         Before the species accounts is an extensive, fully illustrated
key to all species.

?         The book is wider and higher than the Dutch edition, which makes
the photos look even better.

?         Every species comes with an English common name, most of them for
the first time.
