Hi Jeroen,

Litteratura Taxonomica Dipterorum from Neal Evenhuis gives the following for the Villers material:

“Villers’ collection went to a M. Tissier, Jr. in Lyon, and its ultimate fate is unknown; duplicates are supposedly in the MHNL” ; as one of the references is “Thompson, F.C. & A.C. Pont, Syst. Database of Musca names, (1994)”, you could ask Chris or Adrian. (MHNL = Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle, Lyon).

Likewise, for Gmelin, the volume says:
“Personal collection of insects unknown. Specimens surviving from the Leske zoological collection are in NMID; however, the Diptera are not among the surviving specimens.”. One of the references is the same as above.

Cheers,
kurt

Subject: [Syrphidae] type collections

Dear all

I am looking for the depository collection of Villers types of "Musca crabroniformis" and Musca semiluctifera and of Gmelins type of Musca naevia.

Could anyone give me some clues where they might be.

Best wishes,

Jeroen
