Hi Francis !
  Just opened this infrequently checked ID.
  It is Sphaerophoria bengalensis Macquart (male).  S. turkmenica was synonymised by me (Ghorpade, 2009: 11, PDF can be sent to requestor’s personal e-mail ID).
   The images are good enough for an expert to recognize and name ! S. flavoabdominalis Brunetti, 1915 was also confirmed as a synonym by me, like the late (great !) Richard Vockeroth had surmised in 1971.
  Whoever "Eckvana" is my mail to him bounced as I had attached my paper.  It is available as a PDF to anyone who asks for it.
  Good to read something about our subcontinent's Syrphidae.  I am helping a doctoral student in Pakistan now and find that country (its northern Himalayan, Hindu-Kush, Karakoram mountains) having a Palaearctic fauna and poorly sampled and diagnosed !  Cheers,
