Eye colour.



This issue does not specifically concern syrphids, but it may be interesting anyway.


Does anybody know, or know of, any hypothesis about why certain flies, i.e. Tabanus species, have coloured eye surface (almost like a rainbow or like an oily film). Or why some eyes are coloured in red or green????
