Thanks for the advice James. I would like to catch my own wild stock but may need them sooner. I'll have a look around and if I cant find any early ones I may order some. If not its the bilbao ferry!

Thanks again,

Matt

Wait a bit Matt, maybe you'll have to wait until June, in these Arcto-Siberian conditions, (otherwise go south to Bilbao from Plymouth if P&O are still operating that route) you should be in a good position out there in the Atlantic SW of BI (btw: Exeter used to be in Devon), if the winds go south. Surely by early June they'll be arriving in force from the south (I hope), and then you can go and watch and catch them, and you will get what you need easily, simply, courtesy of M. Nature.
No offence(s) intended,
James

Hello,

I am about to beign my first year's PhD experiments examing food chain length and wished to use a plant - aphid - hoverfly - parasitoid system. I have wheat and maize as C3 and C4 plants and am using Sitobion avenae as my aphid. I am interested in using the hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus and wondered if anyone knew where I might be able to procure a few to begin a culture of them? Any advice would be greatly recieved! Thanks,

Kind regards
