I want to thank everyone for sending many, thoughtful articles and responses. Each will be very useful in helping my board colleagues to better understand the issues around claims made by “The Science of Reading” advocates. I have found the issue in our community,
here in the state of Washington, to not be flaming advocates of SoR but rather concerned individuals who come across a podcast or YouTube videos with claims and individual stories that seem compelling to people who want children to get a better education and
have better life opportunities, something all of us seek. That leads people into discovering SoR advocates online in a narrow information stream. It is disconcerting that the massive amount of information available today does not match our citizens’ ability
to discern more reliable from less reliable sources. This will be an important challenge that our next generation of colleagues must address within continually evolving educational systems.

I recall a thoughtful article, countering some of the “Science of Reading” claims that have been circulating, by members of this group. I wonder if someone might send it to me again as I am in need of it. I have served as President of our school board and
we have a new board member wanting to change our reading curriculum so test scores increase. Sigh. Thanks, in advance.
