COP26 has started today in Glasgow and I am here with a delegation from the University of Nottingham with a message of hope. We face the greatest challenge of our time, but as I outlined in my
<a href="https://blogs.nottingham.ac.uk/researchexchange/2021/10/22/our-message-of-hope-at-cop26-research-can-truly-change-the-world/">
<span style="color:#007C89">recent blog</span></a>, a common purpose and shared determination to deliver innovative, bold solutions can change the world. I’m writing to you, as one of the University’s key civic partners, to invite you to join us as we share
our ideas and initiatives around tackling climate change over the course of this important global event.<br>
<br>
Research at the University of Nottingham is global in its impact and its ambitions, and is helping deliver the technologies that will drive a sustainable future. Take a moment to explore our
<a href="https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/cop26/cop26.aspx"><span style="color:#007C89">COP26 campaign page</span></a>, where you can find blogs, podcasts and information on all our activities associated with the conference. In particular, I am excited
by the ground-breaking work we are doing in the field of aviation, with our new <a href="https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/news/green-aviation-facility-given-7.6m-boost-by-d2n2-local-enterprise-partnership">
<span style="color:#007C89">Aerospace Propulsion Facility</span></a> a crucial investment in making Net Zero Aviation a reality.<br>
<br>
But it’s not all about the world-wide scale. Our work is having an impact locally, supporting Nottingham to reach its Net Zero 2028 target and working with Nottingham’s citizens and civic partners to meet this shared challenge.<br>
<br>
Through the Universities for Nottingham initiative, both of Nottingham’s universities, and Councils across Nottinghamshire have now rolled out the Green Rewards app. We are joining up individual efforts across the County and showing how even the smallest actions

For COP26, we are running a series of events around the city that aim to engage with people of all backgrounds and ages. We believe that climate change should be on everyone’s agenda and, by coming together, we will see change happen. I’m delighted to share

<br>
<strong><u><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Green Light in the City </span></u></strong><br>
Brought to you by a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/GreenLightNottingham"><span style="color:#007C89">cross-Nottingham collaboration</span></a>, this pop-up exhibition will see an empty city centre shop unit transformed by the city's two universities, the
City Council and our partner organisations into a community engagement space. We will asking the public to engage with us on the key question of our time: how can we live more sustainably? We hope this event becomes a blueprint for community engagement in
the city.<br>
<br>
<strong><u><span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Primary Parliament</span></u></strong><br>
At this exciting event running from 9-11 November, pupils from over 20 Nottingham schools will have the chance to engage with the challenge of climate change and hear from academics about their research on this topic. They will be invited to respond by creating
an invention to support Nottingham to its net zero target, and to think of themselves as the researchers of the future. Led by Professor Sara Goodacre of the School of Life Sciences, this event is a collaboration between the University of Nottingham and the
city council, and part of the Festival of Social Science.<br>

series of workshops to develop a creative response to the themes of air quality and sustainability. The University of Nottingham and Nottingham and Notts Refugee Forum, in collaboration with sociologist Dr Roda Madziva and Ignite!, will create a performance
piece for Nottingham Refugee Week in 2022. <br>

The first set of sessions, held in half term, saw families recreate the aromas of home cooked meals as an introduction to the topic. They shared authentic techniques and inherited recipes, learning from each other in a supported environment.<br>
