We are delighted to announce that we have an additional member of staff dedicated to public engagement, as Maria Richards has joined the team as Programme and Project Manager (Public Engagement). Maria was previously based in the the Research, Strategy and
Development Team where she worked on promoting interdisciplinary research. Prior to this she worked in museums and heritage and has a wealth of experience in creating community participation.<br>

We have also welcomed Melike Berker to the team, as Programme and Project Manager (Policy). Melike worked for the British Council as Parliamentary Affairs Manager, where she interacted with MPs and policy makers on a daily basis.<br>
<br>
Irena Hulova has left the team in order to pursue a new position working in policy at Nottingham Trent University. We wish her all the best and thank her for all her work over the past year.<br>

On 20 January a new project which aims to significantly improve the quality of life for people throughout Nottingham was launched in BioCity.

<b><span style="color:#E0629A;text-decoration:none">Universities for Nottingham</span></b></a> is a pioneering collaboration between the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, that aims to combine the strengths and civic missions of the two
institutions to help drive prosperity and opportunity across our local area.<br>
<br>
There will be plenty of opportunity for colleagues across the University to get engaged with the initiative. It is being led by the Global and Political Affairs Unit in External Relations who are working with us at the Institute for Policy and Engagement to
consider the best way to do this in terms of research impact and public engagement. There will be a series of roadshows over the next few months to talk more about it – and potentially establish a UoN internal network for those interested in the civic agenda.

with the British Council in 2007 over 10000 scientists and engineers from 31 countries have participated, with country winners coming together for the International FameLab Final at Cheltenham Science Festival each June. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

UK, as well as a video entry option. Presentations must not exceed 3 minutes, must not involve PowerPoint slides, and any props used must be carried on by the participant themselves. Participants are judged on Content, Clarity and Charisma, and the best go
through to the next round. FameLab UK winners receive a weekend masterclass with a professional science communicator, an all-expenses paid trip to Cheltenham Science Festival, the opportunity to take part in the FameLab UK Final and possibly the FameLab International

In the aftermath of the Conservatives’ decisive election victory Paul Johnson will look at some of the challenges the new government will face. Beyond Brexit the big challenges will include promoting earnings and productivity growth after a decade of stagnation,
