September. I’m sure you’ll all give him a very warm welcome, both to the sector and to Nottingham. <a href="http://upp-foundation.org/civic-university-commission/"><b><span style="color:#009BBD;text-decoration:none">Civic University Commission</span></b></a>, Chaired by former Head of the UK Civil Service Lord Bob Kerslake visited Nottingham as part of its
evidence gathering process, as the University has been heavily involved in establishing and shaping the Commission. The Institute hosted a dinner for the Commissioners and around 80 senior civic stakeholders and staff from both the University and NTU – with
tables themed according to different dimensions of the university’s civic role.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Thailand event at the British Embassy in Bangkok in May. The topic at the sell-out event was

as part of the University’s Reputation Campaign, with Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff talking to around 800 school children, teachers, policymakers and fellow researchers at UNMC and in KL. The Institute hosted a lunch for public engagement practitioners from
across ASEAN at the Petrosains Science Discovery Centre in the Petronas Towers. The was held in conjunction with the British Council’s FameLab global competition. Martyn was also joined by HE Vicki Treadell CMG, British High Commissioner to Malaysia as his
scientific assistant for a live experiment as part of Going Global 2018.<br>

</span></strong>a senior civil servant, has been appointed as the Director of the University of Nottingham’s Institute for Policy and Engagement joining us from the Cabinet Office<br>

Stephen’s previous roles include board-level positions at both the Departments for Education and Communities and Local Government. His career began at HM Treasury, and has included spells at the Local Government Association and helping Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
develop their successful devolution proposals.<br>
<br>
He is a member of REF Main Panel C and has worked extensively on developing the research/ policy interface across Whitehall.

The Institute is teaming up with the <a href="http://www.publicengagement.ac.uk/" target="_blank">
<b><span style="color:#009BBD;text-decoration:none">National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement</span></b></a> (NCCPE) and international policy consultancy
<a href="https://onthinktanks.org/" target="_blank"><b><span style="color:#009BBD;text-decoration:none">On Think Tanks</span></b></a> to launch the first programmes that will form part of the Institute's new
<strong><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Policy and Engagement Academy.
</span></strong>The Institute will provide the University with a home for the coordination of policy impact and public engagement-related training, masterclasses, advice and guidance; with programmes for researchers and professional staff across all Faculties
and all campuses. It will work with colleagues in departments such as the Graduate School and Leadership Management Academy to coordinate its programmes.<br>
<br>
This first year will see two programmes being run initially. The first is the <strong>
<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Policy and Engagement Academy Expertise Programme</span></strong> - targeted at those colleagues across the University (both academic and professional service staff) who are responsible for supporting others in developing
policy impact and public engagement activity. Learning will be a mixture of webinars and 'what does this look like at Nottingham' workshops, delivered to a cohort of around 25-30 in Highfield House. We will be issuing a call for participants following the
Nottingham Engaged Conference on September 2017, at which taster sessions from NCCPE and On Think Tanks will be provided for all attendees.<br>

The second programme will be the <strong><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Policy and Engagement Academy Strategic Leaders Programme,</span></strong> which will be aimed at senior academic leadership across the University. Topics will include the
development of public engagement strategies, thinking of impact as a campaign and sessions on research reputation and engagement delivered by senior university and external practitioners. <br>

The Institute is teaming up with the GaPP RPA and the Civic and Regional Board to launch a pilot scheme for three short "Global-Civic Fellows". The funding, of around £15,000, is for University of Nottingham researchers to work with a Nottingham-based civic
partner. Together, they will identify an international policymaker and academic whose work in another city in a particular area is likely to be particularly useful and relevant to that area in Nottingham. The funding will cover travel and a week's programme
of meetings, discussions and engagement with both researchers and civic stakeholders. <br>
