News A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our 2023 festivals so far! These covered a wide range of local and national festivals. Nottingham researchers regularly host events as part of the Festival of Science and Curiosity, Pint of Science, SoapBox Science, Being Human and the Festival of Social Science. FOSAC was a particularly success, engaging with 9,500 children, families and teachers. We also hosted our own large events aimed at the public, including Science in the Park in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University which welcomed over 1,000 attendees and received rave reviews too! ________________________________ The Institute Awards were also announced recently. These aim to recognise the excellent work by researchers and academics on all campuses in achieving policy impact and engaging the public with current research. Our 2022/2023 winners were announced at our awards dinner on Wednesday 26th April and we've included some pictures from the night below. View the winners and nominees on our website. John will be leading on the design and delivery of successful strategies to achieve the University?s key research funding and reputational priorities. He brings 12 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy, and institutional development to the team and we look forward to sharing exciting developments from his team in future newsletters. ________________________________ It's also been a busy term at CAPE, the partnership between Nottingham, UCL and the universities of Cambridge, Manchester and Northumbria. Academics worked with partners across the policy landscape - such as government departments, unions, charities and other policy institutes. You can listen to a podcast episode reflecting on one of these collaborations, between the Rights Lab, NUBS and the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner. The new 'Charity fellowships' scheme launched successfully, providing opportunities for academics to work in policy impact roles through partnership with small charities. CAPE also facilitated visits from the Department for Business & Trade and DLUHC, where participants met with academics to discuss key evidence needs in their areas. We will continue to support these activities over the summer, while seeing the launch of new opportunities, including the recruitment of a Research Assistant for a CAPE collaboration between UoN and Cambridge - more information to come soon. Stay up-to-date on all CAPE activity by subscribing to the monthly newsletter. ________________________________ Our funded policy training for ECRs and MCRs through the Policy Impact Pathways and Policy Impact Accelerator Programmes (PIPP/PIAP) continue to be a success. These programmes offer ten early- and mid-career researchers access to bespoke training and support for policy impact, including project funding to apply their learning. We?ve now completed all the training modules and the social media consultancy element of this year?s schemes. If you think you might be interested in applying for future iterations, keep an eye out for the announcement of the 2023-24 schemes which should be coming in the late summer or early autumn. For more information about the PIPP and PIAP schemes, visit our SharePoint or contact Chris Sims. Opportunities Listen by the Lake is an initiative where the Institute installed four listening posts by the side of the lake in Highfields Park. The listening posts allow children and families to gain an insight into our world of research while enjoying outdoor recreation. If you would like to contribute to the listening posts, please see the current posts and contact us for more information. ________________________________ Nottingham City Libraries are looking to expand the range of activities they run in their settings. The Institute is working with its partnership team to develop a programme of events showcasing research. This expression of interest form is for individuals or research groups interested in hosting activities in a community library setting. ________________________________ Knowledge Engaged: call for contributions.
