Brought to you by the University of Nottingham Institute for Policy and Engagement, the conference is aimed at researchers, academics and professional staff across all disciplines working in or supporting policy impact and public engagement. The day will offer a range of training options to suit all experience levels.
This year's theme of 'Celebrate and Aspire' aims to showcase some of the outstanding policy impact and public engagement that is happening across the University, and inspire you with new ideas from local and national experts.
Plenary speakers include Professor Shearer West and James Kirkup, Director of the Social Market Foundation and former political editor of The Scotsman and The Daily Telegraph.
A mini Pecha Kucha showcase will see colleagues from across university share their stories of success about engaging with policymakers or members of the public.
The afternoon breakout sessions feature a range of workshops across key policy and public engagement topics including Policy 101, Inside the Policy Brain: who policy makers are and how to talk to them, Public Engagement 101, Creating a space for engagement.

Inaugural Policy Impact and Public Engagement Awards<https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/policy-and-engagement/awards/index.aspx>
These awards aim to recognise the excellent work by researchers and academics on all campuses in achieving policy impact and engaging the public with current research. We invite both self-nominations and nominations made on behalf of peers and colleagues.
The categories for the awards are:
* Rising star award – policy impact
* Rising star award – public engagement
* Best policy impact initiative
* Best public engagement initiative
* Keystone award
In addition to our awards, the Graduate School will present the following awards to postgraduate research students: Emerging star award – public engagement and Emerging star award – policy engagement.
The deadline for submitting nominations is 23 August 2019.

Call for evidence: Artists and Researchers - the art of successful collaboration<http://www.publicengagement.ac.uk/whats-new/blog/artists-and-researchers-art-sucessful-collaboration>
The NCCPE are looking to develop a guide to support for artists and researchers who want to collaborate to engage the public, and are keen to hear from you.
The NCCPE would like to invite you to contribute to their evidence review - what are the key factors that need to be considered when developing engagement projects involving artists and researchers? What excellent practice have we missed? Do you have tools to support people wanting to enhance their work in this area? Have you come up with ways of addressing the challenges to working in this way?
If you would like to contribute, please respond to their call for evidence by Wednesday 11 September.

As part of the DEFRA-funded project “Citizen Engagement on the Environment”, state-of-the-art training is offered to develop innovative and powerful ways to engage the public in dialogue about the environment. This training is unique because it brings environmental scientists, policy makers and conservation professionals together.
The training will be delivered by King's College London neuroscientist Dr Kris De Meyer, in association with the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement.

This event which spans the Physical and life sciences, offers something for everyone with an interest in improving their public engagement capabilities. It will provide a fantastic opportunity to learn new ways to engage with your audience, explore the barriers to engagement and discuss how the engagement landscape is changing. But above all, it will be a chance to share your experiences with like minded people in a fun and friendly environment.

Dundee Science Festival 2019 will provide a variety of accessible and engaging science experiences in order to reduce barriers to participation for local audiences.
This year, they are celebrating 10 years of Dundee Science Festival and the collaborators and partners who make it possible. The festival will be held across the city of Dundee involving local communities and engaging with underserved audiences.

Funding Opportunities
Royal Society of Chemistry, Outreach Fund<https://www.rsc.org/awards-funding/funding/outreach-fund/>
This fund provides financial support for chemistry-based public and schools engagement activities. The grant scheme is open to all (individuals and organisations). This includes, but is not limited to, members of the Royal Society of Chemistry, member-led groups, researchers in academia or industry, museums, community groups, not-for-profit organisations, arts groups and libraries.
There are two tiers of funding but only one of them is open at the moment: small grants - up to £2,000.
Next application deadline: 9 September 2019, 12 noon.
Newton Fund Impact Scheme (NFIS)<https://www.britishcouncil.org/education/science/current-opportunities/newton-fund-impact-scheme>
Delivered by British council in partnership with UKRI, NFIS provides funding for current and previous funded Newton Fund grant holders aiming to maximise the impact from Newton Fund activities.
The collaboration between UK and partner countries can build upon the original partnership or form a new partnership. Grants will not be provided to support the continuation of existing activities. Applicants should make a strong case to demonstrate that proposals consist of new activities focusing primarily on impact realisation.
The grants will provide funding targeting the following key areas:
* Initiating or increasing policy impacts or user engagement. This may involve translating existing research or research outcomes into policy impacts, increasing engagement with users, measures to overcome identified barriers to impact or extending engagement into new user communities.
* Initiating or increasing engagement with impact multipliers (e.g. businesses, start-ups, NGOs or charities). This may involve moving research outcomes further along the translation pipeline or extending the outcomes into the commercial sector.
Partner countries: Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil, Kenya, Indonesia
Grants can be up to a maximum £200,000 for up to two years, dependent on the country.

Engaging Libraries Phase 2 - public engagement activities on health, society and culture<https://www.carnegieuktrust.org.uk/project/engaging-libraries/>
The programme will help to facilitate partnerships between public libraries and researchers, and spark people’s curiosity around topics that are relevant or interesting to them. It is a partnership between the Carnegie UK Trust, Wellcome and the Wolfson Foundation.
The Offer
* Funding to deliver a public engagement project on research in health, society and culture:
* £12k – £25k if you are applying as a single library service
* £12k – £50k if you are submitting a joint application
* Support with matching successful applicants to a suitable research partner if you do not already have a research partner in mind or in place. We can also provide advice about partnership matching during the application process.
* A Development Programme providing contact with experts and the opportunity to share ideas and learn with other Engaging Libraries participants.
* An external evaluation to ensure that learning and experience is captured and shared more widely.
The funders are aiming to support around 20 projects, expecting projects to come on board late November 2019 and to spend 3-6 months further developing and refining their idea, with activities coming to a close in May 2021.
