We would like to invite you to the Observatory for Mathematical Education seminar, where Professor Colin Foster will deliver a seminar titled:  “Teaching problem solving in mathematics”.</div>

<i>In this seminar, Professor Foster will explore issues around teaching problem solving in mathematics. He will examine different ways in which the term ‘problem solving’ is used and suggest a framework for thinking about what it is. Problem solving is often
 felt to be neglected in the teaching and learning of mathematics. He will suggest a framework for teaching problem solving that focuses on the systematic and explicit teaching of specific, carefully-chosen problem-solving tactics, as opposed to more widely
 applicable generic strategies. There is an opportunity for colleagues to share their thoughts and experiences.  </i></div>
